Airport Contract Process Show How Shady City Hall Is

What's the deal with those airport restaurant contracts? David Zahniser, an outstanding investigative reporter, explains all in the Los Angeles Times, "City politics hamper efforts to update LAX concession contracts."

The headline of the article, as usual, is misleading. This isn't so much a matter of politics as of our anti-corruption laws. There are major financial conflicts of interest involved.

One company hired a lobbying firm that has contributed, or gotten others to contribute, a bunch of money City Council Members Janice Hahn, Ed Reyes and Tony Cardenas, and City Attorney Carmen Trutanich.

Lobbyists for another company raised money for City Councilman Ed Reyes.

Another company contributed to City Council Member Hahn's unsuccessful campaign to become Lieutenant Governor.

One of Villaraigosa's Airport Commissioners, moreover, owned a huge stake in another of the companies.

And on and on.

Bottom line:  Corporations, unions and other special interest contribute to career politicians in the Spring Street Gang so the politicians will give them your money and valuable contracts. Are those the kind of politicians you want in City Hall? Of course not. So get involved -- even in a minor way -- with LA Clean Sweep to try to get some honest people in office, people whose only agenda is to save our rapidly failing city.

  2. errata: Cardenas isn't the City Attorney. Carmen "the Poop" Trutanich is. Speaking of electing "honest people" how is that going with our City Attorney? He sits back for months allowing Poop (thus the moniker) to be dumped by ILLEGAL CAMPERS in Venice, then allows in Granada Hills numerous Clownhouses (with 10-20 people living in single family homes) to go on, claiming a "new Ordinance" is needed to "help."
There are no honest people who are going to get in office in this City with the playing field rigged the way it is now.
When the City files for Bankruptcy protection, however, then you'll see "reform." Sacramento and the County are going to grab all the City's money it can to cover it's debts. That'll leave too few taxpayers left remaining in the City to foot the bills due. Selling the parking garages won't give the Crooks more than 4 months of operating funds. One more good drop in the Dow will seal the deal. The other 49 States won't desire to bail out L.A. They'll demand many concessions and conditions for that. Jeez, wonder why so many of our Elected officials in L.A. have taken trips overseas (at our expense of course?) Can you say "extradition treaty?"
