Build The Chinese "Straddling Bus," Not The "Subway To The Sea"

The Chinese are working on a clever new concept:  a train or bus on tracks that moves OVER the existing traffic jams.  It looks as though it could be fun, and hold a BUNCH of people, without anyone having to go underground.  I'm guessing we'd need to re-wire some traffic lights, but why spoil our view of the sky with above-ground power lines anyway?  Here's a video from CBS Evening news.

  1. Not very practical. Look at the city's streets, sidewalks & gutters to consider how well these would work. Would the maintenance of the infrastructure, if there ever is a budget for it, allow for such a vehicle? Will new structures have to be built to allow entering & exiting of the bus? How about turning right or left while under one of these monsters. LA wasn't built for or infrastructure maintained for these type of buses.
Would a few hundred more standard buses of different sizes & routes be more efficient & practical?

  2. Did you see those big trucks & regular buses in the video? How would the new taller buses be able to get passed these? Don't you always see drivers that drive too close to or over a line or cutting across the lanes to immediately get to where they want to go? Good luck getting the new buses to move much more than the rest of the traffic.

  3. If this isn't a joke, it's a giant metaphore for Viagara. Can you imagine a drunk trying to gain entrance to that tunnel. Talk about accidents waiting to happen.
