Chase, Verizon and Arco are major corporations, and they don't even bother putting any English in these outdoor display ads here in Los Angeles. Almost makes you miss the days when you could "press one for English," huh? You can't "press one" on these signs. They are signs of how far gone illegal immigration is in America's second-biggest city.
Plus, let's not forget today's big parade for Mexican Independence Day, featuring Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, in the same city that called off the St. Patrick's Day parade, supposedly due to a lack of funds. Right. We can afford to pay thousands to City Councilman Cardenas's sister and brother-in-law to take low rider cars to Mexico for an exhibition, but we can't afford a parade to justify a day of drinking here where we need it. That is totally blarney, man.

Is this also the city that couldn't afford a July 4th parade?
ReplyDeleteNot only are the Mexican feathers out, it's party time. Channel 5 says. "while we are at it we'll collect signatures affirming Alarcon's absolute non involvement in stating an untruth about his address."
ReplyDeletePerhaps a political reason behind not having a St. Patrick's Day parade, but accommodating a Mexican parade; More Mexican-American registered voters in the City of Los Angeles, than Irish-American registered voters?
ReplyDeleteIs it possible that the circumstances would have been reversed if we were in New York City?
The Mexican Day Parade was mostly used for political purposes, being so close to the Nov 2 elections. On Chaannel 7's "Vista L.A." Union bosses, local "Latino" Officals including Sup Molina, Huizar, Villar, and others praised "diversity."
ReplyDeleteThe City's Machine doesn't have a need for "Anglos" since the battle for votes and public fund monies is centered around the poorest areas where Latinos who are citizens are surrounded by non-citizen Latino welfare beneficiaries. Hundreds of Millions of bucks has been flowing in from the CRA, Stimulus funds, and Bond measures of which comes out of it are cushy "outiside contracts" and political contributions from the benefactors.
In the end, private sector jobs will continue to shrink and the debt will pile up even more, leading to an eventual bankruptce y.
But, why not have a parade, paid of course with your taxpayer funds, to "honor" their "great work for the community?"
After all, most of L.A. doesn't vote at all, and the very few who bother keep these people forever employed to bankrupt L.A.
Historians will write about these times we're living in as "The Age of Insanity."
Historians will write "Angelinos, as they were called back in 2010, could of easily saved their great City by simply voting, a process at the time that took all of 10 minutes out of a person's day. But they didn't and just let the City go bankrupt. Today (let's say the year 2025)
L.A's residents are mostly all gone now, just a few street vendors and old people remain. Many of the City's former elected officials fled the country to parts far away and unknown, but are still collecting their annual six figure pensions.
President Villaraigosa and Governor Garcetti assure all of us that L.A. will be the greatist City on Earth once again..."
Yeah corporations are throwing American's under the bus in America. They don't care it's all about money.
ReplyDeleteActually, at the rate we're going, there won't be any historians -- just peasants wondering who built the ruins.
ReplyDeleteThe City also canceled the long running Canoga Park Memorial day parade due to lack of funds.
ReplyDeletePor favor, pueden poner todo esto en Espanol para que todos mis amigos puedan entenderlo? Pueden poner "Press 1 for English, Oprime el 2 por Espanol y el 3 por Spanglish"! Does this need translation for Presidente Villarbaboso?
ReplyDeleteGracias, Amigo Walter. Someone has to make sense in this City and it may as well be you!!!
Correction: Councilman Dennis Zine wouldn't pay for the Canoga Park Parade out of his slushfund money. I have pictures from 1950 featuring that parade back when the roads were dirt roads on some of the route! But, if you drive down Vanowen St near Winnetka, a gigantic hole was excavated and left by a defunct developer and it has a sign "Available!" His staff allowed this to happen without a performance bond to protect the City in case of default, thus the community has No parade and a huge hole to fill with rainwater (which later will attract mosqitos) and of course someone will fall down there or get hurt, so the City is liable too for that.
ReplyDeleteWhat did the voters do about this? Give a 3rd term to all the Clowncilmen and reelect Zine with 70% of the vote cast! (of which 8% actually turned out.)
Suggestion: Should rename the parade the
Villa Canoga Mexican Memorial Parade. You'd have 4 or 5 council-Clowns and the Mayor tripping over each other to fund it first!
Get all your friends and neighbors registered to vote and get them to the damn polls if you have to drive them there yourselves! Otherwise:
Viva La Canoga!
I believe these supergraphic signs on buildings are illegal in Los Angeles.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to the Google Map for the building's location:

Boy, I'm glad I live in Ventura County.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wayne from Encino for the clarification. The daily news article only said the city would only fund half of the cost of the parade.
